About me

Derrick is a Texas-based film curator and physical media advocate specializing in independent and global cinema. Through his content across TikTok, Instagram, Letterboxd, and his blog, Derrick is dedicated to making film discovery more accessible by introducing audiences to overlooked classics, emerging filmmakers, repertory screenings, and new theatrical releases. His work combines film history and cultural context to encourage deeper engagement with cinema while helping viewers expand their watchlists beyond the mainstream.

As an accredited member of the press, Derrick regularly covers new films and major film festivals, including the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, 2025 Fantastic Fest, and the 2026 Dallas International Film Festival. His goal is to champion films that deserve wider recognition and connect audiences with stories they may not have otherwise discovered.

Beyond social media, Derrick is a co-host of a film podcast with fellow creator DanielFilmTherapy, TheScreenGuidePodcast. He has appeared as a guest on podcasts including Martial Arts Film Freak and The Substance Podcast, where he has discussed film criticism of underseen films.

Derrick is a member of the East Texas Film Society, a Creators Choice Awards Economy Member, and will serve as a judge for the 2026 Tyler Film Festival. His work as a curator has also led to collaborations with studios, distributors, and entertainment brands including NEON, Apple TV, Lionsgate, Letterboxd, and 1-2 Special, creating campaigns that spotlight a diverse range of films, tv series, and home media releases.

Whether recommending an overlooked independent feature, or covering a world cinema classic, he strives to create thoughtful, engaging conversations that inspire audiences to explore all that cinema has to offer.
